Intriguing art that invites you to get lost in the woods….
I find the rich layers, light and dark contrasts, and intricate lines that I see in dense woodland endlessly fascinating
I have taken many (many!) photographs on my woodland wanderings over the last few years, and my process captures elements from these photos within the painting surface. I do this through photo transfer techniques, manipulating the photographs to get different effects, and printing my photographs onto transparent papers which I physically layer and embed in to my paintings using collage.
Come on in to revel in my atmospheric, semi-abstract tree-scapes, where I create layers of rich texture, colour and line, evoking the drama and mystery of ancient woodland…
I create richly layered, slightly ethereal paintings inspired by my love of walking in the woods. I work in a variety of mixed media materials, including acrylic paints and inks, gold leaf, transparent collage layers and photo transfer, and monoprinting techniques.
By slowly and intuitively building up surfaces with history and depth, I try to capture some of the feelings that being amongst trees evokes in me - peace, excitement, a connection to the past and to nature, but perhaps also a little bit of fear due to my memories of all those fairy tales about enchanted woods!
